The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the European Union's long-term financing institution. It is owned by the EU Member States. It finances investments that contribute to EU policy objectives. The EIB's eight investment priorities are 1. climate and environmental protection, 2. digitalization and technological innovation, 3. security and defence, 4. cohesion, 5. agriculture and bioeconomy, 6. social infrastructure, 7. capital markets union and 8. a stronger Europe in a more peaceful and prosperous world.
The EIB Group, which includes the European Investment Fund (EIF), signed almost EUR 89 billion of new financing in 2024 for over 900 projects that strengthen Europe's competitiveness and security.
All projects financed by the EIB Group are in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. Almost 60% of the EIB Group's annual financing goes to projects that directly contribute to climate change mitigation, adaptation and a healthier environment.
By fostering market integration and mobilizing investment, the EIB Group has supported a record amount of more than EUR 100 billion in new investment for Europe's energy security in 2024 and mobilized EUR 110 billion in growth capital for start-ups, scale-ups and European pioneers.
