Arrival by train

To travel to Salzburg by train for a conference, it is best to use ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) or Westbahn for direct connections arriving at Salzburg Central Station, from where you can reach conference centers such as the Salzburg Congress by public transport (bus/tram) or on foot; also check out offers such as the Bayernticket for travelers from Germany.
Travel options:

  • ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways): Travel directly to Salzburg Central Station, including with international trains.
  • Westbahn: Offers fast, direct connections (approx. 2.5 hours) every half hour from Vienna to Salzburg.
  • Deutsche Bahn (DB): Use DB for connections from Germany; the Bavaria Ticket is also valid to Salzburg Central Station.

Arrival by car

Salzburg is excellently connected to the international motorway network and therefore easy to reach. Within Austria, you can reach the city of Mozart via the A1 or A10 motorways, and from Germany via the A8.

Parking, fees, and tolls

All parking spaces in Salzburg city center are subject to charges. We therefore recommend that you park your car in a P+R parking lot and take public transportation directly to the city center at a special rate.
If you are traveling by car and staying at a hotel in Salzburg's old town, please note the useful information about the hotel guidance system and the bollard system. All motorways and expressways in Austria are subject to tolls. The section between Walserberg and Salzburg North is exempt from tolls.
